I've a civic question. In my country (France) there is a JAPD (Journée D'Appel de Préparation à la Défense [Day of Registration to the Preparation to the Defense] ). This day is obligatory for young people which have 17 years old and the day takes place at the prefecture of your department (Eure for me). I would to know if on others countries (USA, Spain, United Kingdom etc...) there is this "special" day ?

I'm assuming this day is a chance for the French army to try and recruit new people, yes? We have something like this in the U.S, but it's not obligatory to attend. Usually recruiters from the different branches (namely the Marines) go around to different high schools and hand out pamphlets to the graduating class, hoping to get them to enlist rather than go to college. They also send letters to your house after you graduate and call you on the phone.

In this day, the people of the base tell you about French army and professions on the Ministry of Defense for country. This day preparates youngers for the last stape of citizenship and if you interest by that, you can recieve documentations for recruitment.

Ah, then I guess it is somewhat like the U.S. then, only we don't have a special day for it and it's not really obligatory.

Okay, the countries are very different on the world. And I have an other question. ^^ In France and probably Spain, youngers people (between 14-16 years old) can to be firemen or firewomen. To preparate this profession, youngers follows a formation during 4 years. The question is : Are there youngers who take this carreer ?

Here in the U.S. you can become a volunteer fireman, but I'm not sure what age you have to be to become a real one.

in my opinion the military is a great way to go. I've been contemplating joining the US Army since my sophomore year in high school, which was 03-04.
I'm just not ready to give up everything in my life right now for 9 months of training plus deployment. Within 2 or 3 years though, I will probably enlist. I've been close several times. Looking back now, I wish I would've went right after high school before I got to where I am now with so much to give up.
